Members of the Hardware Marketing Council gathered at the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club May 26-28, 2015. The agenda included the election of five new Board of Directors Members: Jon Easter, Wally Glowicki, Brian Hilton, Brian Hippler and Wade Rector. The Council thanks the outgoing Board of Directors, Jay Brooks, Wayne Schultz and Kent Owens, for their service. The Officers elected for the following year are: Tim Brown-President, Rob Scoble-Vice President, Bill Lown-Secretary and Eric Lowenstein-Treasurer.
The meeting started off with a fun filled Tuesday evening that included the welcoming of 10 new members: Brad Aten, Robert Brockman, Michael Bruce, Todd Elms, Chip Lee, David May, Patrick O’Reilly, Scott Rutledge, Michael Trottmann and John Wright. Tim Miller presented the bylaw changes to the attendees on Wednesday morning. The changes were unanimously approved.
The meeting also included an impressive lineup of speakers. John Hartmann, CEO of True Value Company, started the speaker portion of the meeting on Wednesday morning by sharing the company’s new strategic plan and initiatives to turn the co-op around. John Keeley, Vice President-Building Materials Division of LMC, shared with the buying group’s growth plans for the 1,300 locations that generate sales of $3.2 billion. Mark Herbek, Partner and Senior Research Analyst of Cleveland Research, gave the group some very informative insights on how to navigate the home center market in the future, where to save money and where to spend, how to navigate future growth and what to plan for in the future. Bill Lee, CEO of NRHA, started Thursday morning off with an update of their education initiatives and what research projects they are working on to strengthen the Independent Hardware Dealer. Mark Veeder, Vice President-Online Merchandising of The Home Depot, shared with the group Depot’s plans for improvement, fulfillment and growth in in this emerging market. Dr. Randall Parker, Professor of Economics at East Carolina University, presented his insights into future concerns and growth of the overall economy.
The evaluations from the meeting reflected the highest speaker ratings ever. Thanks to Bill Lown for his fine effort planning this meeting. Jon Easter will become the Program Chairman beginning at the December meeting. I would like to extend a special thank-you to Bill Lee and NRHA for all the support and help they give HMC throughout the year.
The next meeting is December 1-3, 2015 at Saddlebrook Resort in Wesley Chapel, Florida.
